He was one of the pioneering designers who combined architectural elements with those of fashion, with his eyewear collections being the ones that caught the world's eye during the 1980s. Matsuda's reputation as a pioneer in fashion as art was cemented by his successful collaborations with such distinguished artists as Nan Goldin, Jan Saudek, Juergen Teller and Bruce Weber, which were highly praised and celebrated. Today, everything they do continues to build on this timeless tradition that remains their foundation.
